As parents, we all want our children to feel confident and happy at school. But sometimes, eyesight problems can quietly get in the way of learning — and children don’t always realise, or know how to explain, that they can’t see clearly.
So how do you know if your child might be struggling to see the board in class? Here are a few common signs that it could be time for an eye test.

1. Squinting or narrowing their eyes
If your child regularly squints at the board, the television or even a book, it could be a sign they’re trying to focus more clearly.
2. Sitting too close
Does your child move closer to the TV, hold books close to their face, or try to sit at the very front of the class? This may suggest they’re struggling to see things at a distance.
3. Frequent headaches or tired eyes
Headaches — especially after school or homework — can be linked to eyestrain. Children often don’t make the connection, but an eye test can quickly identify if vision is the cause.
4. Falling behind in school
Sometimes, difficulties in seeing the board or reading clearly can affect concentration and confidence. If your child is slipping behind, checking their vision is a simple way to rule out eye problems.
