5 Simple Exercises to Reduce Eye Strain After a Long Day

Feeling tired after a long day of screen time? Try these 5 simple exercises to reduce eye strain and keep your eyes refreshed and healthy.

We’ve all been there—long hours in front of screens, whether it’s working, studying, or enjoying your favourite show. By the end of the day, your eyes feel tired, dry, and strained. But don’t worry! Just like your body needs exercise to stay strong, your eyes need a good workout too.

Let’s give your eyes a workout with these 5 simple exercises—they’re quick, easy, and you can do them anywhere.

1. The 20-20-20 Rule

This one's a game-changer! Every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds. This simple habit helps your eye muscles relax and recover, preventing fatigue from prolonged screen time.

2. Palming

Rub your hands together to generate some warmth, then gently cup your palms over your closed eyes, without putting pressure on them. Hold this for 30 seconds, and feel the tension melt away. It’s like a mini spa for your eyes!

3. Eye Rolling

Move your eyes in a circular motion, first clockwise and then counter clockwise. Repeat 10 times in each direction. This helps relieve tension around your eyes and improves circulation.

4. Focus Change

Hold your finger or a pen about 6 inches from your face. Focus on it for a few seconds, then slowly move it about 10-12 inches away. Focus on it again, then move it further. Repeat 10 times. This will help your eyes refocus and relax the focusing muscles.

5. Blinking Exercise

When we’re staring at screens, we blink less, which can lead to dry eyes. Take a few seconds to blink rapidly 10 times to moisten your eyes and refresh them.

Why These Exercises Work

Our eyes weren’t made to stare at screens for hours on end, but we’re all doing it more than ever. These exercises are designed to relieve tension, increase circulation, and improve focus. Plus, they’re quick and easy, so you can do them at your desk or while relaxing at home.
